The mission of the Creation Care Work Group (CCWG) is to inspire and encourage our parish congregation and the community to explore the call of God and Jesus to care for the Earth, and to love one another and the Earth as he loves us. Our grounding and points of reference include the establishment of the Episcopal Covenant to the Care of Creation by the national bodies of the Episcopal Church such as the Advisory Council on Stewardship of Creation, resolutions confirmed by past General Conventions addressing the crisis of climate change, and the responsibilities of caring for our local parish church.
The following excerpts from the Episcopal Church’s Covenant for the Care of Creation (follow this link) encourage us to believe that in Jesus, God so loved the whole world. We follow Jesus, so we love the world God loves. Concerned about the global climate emergency, drawing from a range of approaches for our diverse contexts, we commit to form and restore loving, liberating, life-giving relationships with all of Creation.
LOVING FORMATION
For God’s sake, we will grow our love for the Earth and all of life through preaching, teaching, storytelling, and prayer.
LIBERATING ADVOCACY
For God’s sake, standing alongside marginalized, vulnerable peoples, we will advocate and act to repair Creation and seek the liberation and flourishing of all people.
LIFE-GIVING CONSERVATION
For God’s sake, we will adopt practical ways of reducing our climate impact and living more humbly and gently on Earth as individuals, households, congregations, institutions, and dioceses.
We invite you to learn more about the Episcopal Vision for Creation Care (follow this link).
CCWG seeks to explore biblical as well as the spiritual calling for care of the Earth, recycling processes, and the world-wide impact of climate change. Among other resources, our own Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio has an active Commission on Creation Care & Environmental Justice (follow this link) from whom we seek to draw support and education.
CCWG seeks to develop a forum for open discussion, sharing of opinions, and tackling roadblocks to find paths to work toward caring, open, and manageable action.
