Music is a part of the worship and life at Christ Church. The choirs play a significant role in our liturgy and worship, both by leading congregational singing and presenting anthems appropriate to the Scripture lessons appointed for the day.
Music is a way to reach many people, enhancing the spoken words of the sermon, and the written words of Holy Scripture. Music speaks to some in a more impactful way than that of words alone.
For those reasons, the music ministry at Christ Church endeavors to reach out to the congregations present on Sundays, those who come for Evensong or a weekday concert, or those in the community at large, through the greatest music—both old and new—from the many backgrounds within the Episcopal Church. On any given Sunday you might hear an anthem from the 16th century, or a spiritual from the 20th century. You may hear a Bach Prelude and Fugue, or a piano piece with a jazz influence. Hymns come from the Hymnal 1982, as well as the supplemental hymnals of the Church. You will find the music of Christ Church to be both traditional and eclectic—using the beautiful pipe organs and pianos to lead song.
The music ministry is fortunate to have a bright and welcoming Music Suite for rehearsals, which also contains our music library, vesting areas, and the office for the Director of Music. It is located just off of the Parish Hall, next to the church office.
The music library includes over 1000 catalogued sets of sheet music, over 20 sets of compilations or longer pieces, and numerous books.
